Historically, there has been just one option for straightening crooked teeth: metal braces. While traditional orthodontics is effective, it can be uncomfortable and time-consuming. The obtrusiveness of metal braces can also lead to self-conscious feelings.

For many patients, Invisalign represents a better way. Invisalign offers many of the same benefits as traditional braces, allowing you to get the confident smile you have always wanted. And Invisalign can be both painless and faster. At In Motion Dentists, we are proud to provide Invisalign to our patients throughout the greater La Verne, CA area.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a brand of transparent aligners that are custom-made to correct crowding, overbites, underbites, and crooked teeth.

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign is a clear removable orthodontic appliance that can easily be removed when convenient and can then be put back into place just as easily. Due to the discrete design of Invisalign, other people are less likely to notice that the patient is wearing Invisalign.

Though Invisalign corrects many of the same problems as braces, it usually works much more quickly and without as much discomfort. And, because these aligners are both clear and removable, patients usually do not experience the same sense of self-consciousness.

Our Process

Our Invisalign process includes a consultation, treatment plan, wearing your aligners, and check-up appointments. Our location in La Verne makes it easy for patients in Los Angeles County and Orange County to come to In Motion Dentists for each of these steps.

Consultation

During your consultation, we will talk about your goals for straighter teeth and examine your smile to determine whether Invisalign is the right option for you.

Treatment plan

If you are a candidate for Invisalign, we will take a 3-D digital scan, photos, and x-rays of your teeth. We gather the information to create a digital model of your mouth and teeth for a custom treatment plan. After you approve the plan, we will send it, along with your scan, photos, and x-rays, to the Invisalign lab to make custom aligners for you.

Wearing your aligners

When your Invisalign aligners are ready, we will examine them for fit. Your dentist will adjust them as needed for comfort around your gumline. You will wear each set of aligners for 20 to 22 hours daily for two weeks. Then, switch to the next pair of aligners. Many patients start seeing results in a few weeks.

Check-up appointments

Every six to eight weeks, you will have a check-up appointment in our office and get a new package of aligners. We will determine if your progress is on track or requires adjustments.

After you wear all your aligners, we will examine your teeth again and check for any needed refinements to your smile.

Am I a Good Candidate for Invisalign?

It is important to note that Invisalign does have its limitations and cannot correct all orthodontic problems. More complicated or severe problems may still require traditional orthodontic appliances. We can tell you more about your candidacy for Invisalign when you join us in La Verne for a consultation.

Generally speaking, the best candidates for Invisalign are struggling with one or more of the following problems:

  • Underbite
  • Overbite
  • Crossbite
  • Overcrowded teeth
  • Other spacing issues (e.g., gaps in the teeth)
  • Teeth that have grown in crooked

  • You can easily remove your aligners for special occasions, such as photos.
  • Invisalign is almost invisible, which makes them popular among teens and adults alike.
  • While traditional braces may be needed for as long as five years, Invisalign can give you the results you need in as little as 12 months.
  • By addressing crowding and spacing issues, Invisalign can also help you reduce your risk of gum disease.

Does Invisalign Hurt?

Many patients wonder whether they can expect pain from Invisalign. For the most part, Invisalign is generally painless, so much so that you will quickly forget you are wearing aligners. However, when you first get aligners, or when you transition into a different size, you may experience some minor soreness for one to three days. You can easily remedy this with over-the-counter pain medication.
